Day 7 - Western Normandy

Le Mont-Saint-Michel

At low tide the island is surrounded by beach almost as far as you can see.  At high tide, it's an island, surrounded by the ocean.

Tide Out as We Arrived

Those little dots in the middle of the picture are people walking towards the rock/island.  Click on the image to see a larger version.  You'll see the rock again in a second...

More people walking when tide is out.  Click the image to see a larger version.

Tide Came In

The same rock we just saw.    Now surrounded by ocean.

Tide coming in where those people were walking.  Now just sea gulls.  It was coming in fast!

Carol watching the tide come in

Looking out the gate.  It's now an island.

Looking back into the gate.  We walked into that gate on dry ground just a couple of hours earlier.

The island

We stayed a couple of hours to take night photos of Mont Saint-Michel.  Carol held in there like a champ!

Dinan

Before going to Mont-Saint-Michel we stopped at the city of Dinan in Brittany.

Just an avenue.  We had lunch at the cafe on the left.

The Tour de l'Horloge.  Carol's there somewhere.

Basilique Saint-Sauveur

Bayeux

We stayed in Bayeux while in Normandy.  We passed the cathedral every day on the way to breakfast,  and on the way to dinner.  Here are a variety of pictures I took of the cathedral.

The cathedral at night.

The cathedral in the morning.

Inside the cathedral.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND TO THE MEMORY OF
ONE MILLION DEAD
OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE
WHO FELL
IN THE GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918
AND OF WHOM THE
GREATER PART REST
IN FRANCE

Stained glass in the cathedral.

Odds and Ends

Many people in 2018 are still taking pictures with their tablets.  Saw this all over France
